Acquisitions Editor

Contract to Permanent Position

Overview

The iNow team is searching for an editor responsible for acquisitions, editorial, and development of manuscripts. This individual will work with the publisher to strategize and manage title plans for product categories to ensure the publishing group produces the budgeted amount of product to meet annual fiscal goals.

 

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a consistent and multi-faceted publishing pipeline following the iNow team’s strategy and philosophy.

  • Proactively participate in regular editorial meetings and calls for submissions.

  • Identify market trends and felt needs of readers.

  • Actively acquire new titles and authors—consistent with publishing strategy and financial goals.

  • Maintain and strengthen trust in author relationships.

  • Provide timely communication with current and potential authors and their agents regarding the status of their proposals and/or upcoming projects.

  • Work directly with iNOW CEO to establish marketing and product strategy for each title.   

  • Present titles progress in distribution path meetings.

  • Oversee and approve creative development of titles, descriptive copy, and covers for books acquired.

 

Qualifications

Knowledge: Ability to accurately, efficiently, and economically perform the above duties, producing quality books that reflect editorial excellence and support the iNow Publishing mission.

 

Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years editorial experience with at least 3 years of acquisitions and macro editing experience.

 

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in English, Writing, Marketing, Publishing, or equivalent degree required – relevant experience will be considered in lieu of education.

 

Industry Knowledge: Working knowledge of the online book market, leading authors, and publishers is required. Experience editing fiction and nonfiction books preferred.

In-House Literary Agent

Contract to Permanent Position

Overview

The iNow team is searching for an in-house literary agent to represent selected manuscripts in negotiating rights distribution.  This individual will work with the CEO and Acquisitions Editor to establish and execute the sale of other media rights like film, television, and foreign distribution to ensure the publishing group meets annual fiscal goals.

 

Responsibilities

  • Arrange meetings with acquisitions reps for film and TV opportunities

  • Locate and submit proposals for film, TV, streaming platforms, and other outlets

  •  Communicate professionally and amicably while representing a culturally-diverse client base of authors and book topics.

  • Work diligently to create good, lasting industry relationships that can be leveraged when shopping manuscript rights.

 

Qualifications

Knowledge: Ability to accurately, efficiently, and economically perform the above duties, producing quality distribution and contract opportunities that reflect the iNow Publishing mission to help authors share their stories with as many people as possible.

 

Work Experience: 1-2 years of experience working in the publishing industry or 1-2 years shopping and negotiating manuscript rights.

 

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Publishing, Film and TV production or equivalent degree required – relevant experience will be considered in lieu of education.

 

Industry Knowledge: Able to locate submission opportunities and represent manuscripts in an efficient and fast-paced manner. Proficient in networking and relationship, with a working knowledge of negotiating and navigating manuscript and idea distribution.

 

Skills:

  • Must be an excellent communicator with an ability to establish a rapport with diverse and eclectic personalities.
